Kalkan is a place to relax: you can sit by the pool, go for a swim in the sea or take it easy at one of the beach clubs. A favourite for us though is a boat trip from the harbour. You board at about 10am and are welcomed with Turkish Tea or Coffee, lunch is cooked on the boat and you return at 5pm. In between you'll stop for a swim at one of the many coves near Kalkan or one of the nearby Islands. An absolute must in our view.

There are literally hundreds of cafes, bars and restaurants serving local cuisine or delicacies from around the world with prices ranging from cheap and cheerful to high end fine dining.

The sea is accessed via a pebble beach in the town or via one of the beach clubs, however excellent sandy beaches are only minutes away at Patara and Kaputas (bus, taxi or car). There are lots of places of historical interest close by including the ruins at Patara and Letoon. For thrill seekers you can gorge walk at Saklikent or Gizlikent and many of the local travel agents run excursions for canoeing, off road driving and scuba diving. Water sports are also available at one of the clubs near the harbour.

A 25 minute drive by bus or car takes to Kas, a larger town with a greater variety of shops and more restaurants. You can take a boat trip from here to Meis, a Greek Island with a famous blue lagoon to swim in and see the logger head turtles.

Further afield about 1.5 hour drive are Fethiye and Olu Deniz with its famous beach. The Babadag cable car and paragliding centre are close to Olu Deniz.
