We are an Australian couple who came to Italy in 2013. On a holiday in Puglia of that year we just fell in love with the Salento region, the heel of the boot area and decided to buy a house! It was all a bit crazy but we just did it. In our previous lives we have worked in Real Estate so perhaps buying a house did not seem too difficult. Can say however
many hurdles followed but here we are and loving the chance to really get to know the true Italy. Our house in the country, has allowed us to meet many locals. Although our language skills aren't great we manage to connect with our Italian friends. Glenn and I are pretty relaxed people, you have to be to live in Italy and actually most times find it amusing the bureaucracy the Italians put forward.We left our house in Puglia in October 2019 then due to Covid restrictions in Australia only returned in February 2022, hence home exchanging has been non existent the past few years. During this time we have enjoyed a growing family with four Grandchildren now, ages from 22 years to nearly one!

Our stay by Sue and Glenn was a delight. Puglia, of course, which we dreamed of since our reading of Le Soleil des Scorta, by Laurent Gaudé, but also and especially the house and the trullo of Sue and Glenn. The little pool, the swimming pool, the olive trees, the garden… The house is very well equipped, and wherever you look, the view is magnificent. Besides, Sue and Glenn are thoughtful hosts, and everything was ready for us. We’d be happy to go back!

The Trullo and Lamia were both perfect for the four of us. The property was clean, welcoming and in a perfect position for exploring wonderful Puglia. Instructions for the houses were comprehensive and detailed. Sue and Glen left us food and drink for our first meal and were helpful and contactable throughout our stay. Would happily stay again!

NOT AVAILABLE FOR EXCHANGE IN 2023 DUE TO SUE'S HOSPITALISATION AND REHABILITATION PROGRAM, OUR APOLOGIES. Our house is an ancient Trullo, totally refurbished to modern standards and another separate dwelling called a " Lamia" the " Lamia features, lounge/ dining kitchen with one bedroom and one bathroom. The " lamia" has been totally refurbished. The "Trullo" is made of stone and has one bedroom, small lounge and bathroom. This also has been recently
renovated.

Our neighbourhood is a quiet rural area with most of the houses being on 1/12 acres or more...these trulli type houses grow mostly olive trees and fruit and nut trees. Our property has 35 olive trees and a variety of fig, pear and nut trees. There is an English woman next door and several expats in the area however there are many very friendly Italians living in the area. It is totally private and safe and we are between Ceglie Messapica which is by car 10 minutes and Martina Franca 20 minutes and Ostuni is 25 minutes. All major tourist attractions and beautiful beaches are within easy drives. Alberobello and Matera ...the Unesco listed towns are an easy day's visit. Nice walks in the country side, hire of bikes, abundance of cheap good restaurants and also some very special restaurants in Ceglie, Cisternino, Ostuni, Martina Franca the list is endless. We are one hour from a major airport and Sea port of Brindisi. Easy car hire at airport. Excellent range of supermarkets and wine shops

Ceglie Messapica.....see the wonderful caves of Grotte Di Montevicoli....this town is known as the Gastrnomic City in the Salento region. Famous for its food and cooking school and art. Locorotondo around 30 minutes away is the white washed medieval town with narrow alleys ways, gorgeous historic centre some fabulous and beautiful churches with view of the
Pugliese countryside filled with olive trees, some thousands of years old. Ostuni too is white washed, cobbled paths leading to tiny stone pathways filled with cafes, restaurants and bars, craft and tourist shops all with glimpses of the very blue green sea of the Adriatic. Leece is either a short drive or train it from Ostuni to this medieval city often spoke of as the Florence of the south. Here you will find Baroque architecture in buckets! Some fabulous old grand mansions of the aristocracy .....peek into their fabulous courtyards through the iron gates. I believe once a year there is actually a tour where you can go inside!

We expect the house to be left in the same condition it was on arrival. Should you require a cleaner this can be organised at your expense. We have a Property Manager locally, who speaks English, who can be contacted if any emergency arises .
